Weekly Newsletter for Dec. 15 - 19

There will be no Bible verse or spelling words this week.  These will resume the week we return in January.   

Monday and Tuesday are full days of school and Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are half-days of school.  I will walk the students out at 11:30 on the half days. 

Thursday is our class party, it will begin at 10:00.  Thank you for sending the gift cards for the students to exchange!  We will have a treat bag, so any requested items or extra items you wish to send will be fine. 

Important dates to remember:  

Thursday, Dec. 18 – Class party at 10:00

Friday, Dec. 19 – Last day before Christmas Break

Monday, Jan. 5 – School resumes

***Thursday, Feb. 5 – Our Class chapel program at 8:40. ***

Thursday, Jan. 15 – Move Up Morning for 3rd – 6th grades (visit 3rd grade classes)

Monday, Jan. 19 – No School/MLKing, Jr. Bday

Weekly Newsletter for December 8 – 12

  • Boxes of macaroni and cheese, canned fruits and vegetables for the food drive are due Friday the 12th. 
  • Monetary donations to purchase items for the needy family with 6 children are due Friday the 12th.  ( If you wish to purchase an item yourself, I have a list of needs and sizes.)
  • Gift card to exchange for our party is due Friday the 12th.
  • Class Christmas party is Thursday the 18th at 10:00.

New Testament Book of the week:  I Timothy 

Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, I Corinthians, II Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, I Thessalonians, II Thessalonians  and I Timothy will be written on the back.

Reading:  We will conclude Summarization next week.  I want to test on it next Wed.  The students need to study the  process questions and be able to fill in the missing words on the test.  A study sheet will be sent home Monday of the visual tool.  They will need to be able to fill in the exact sheet for the test.

English: Shurley English, chapter 8 is a short chapter on writing skills.  There are no antonyms or synonyms with this chapter.  

Math:  New facts for 15, 16, 17, and 18 will be introduced this week.   Look at the daily math sheets to see the skills your child should know.  

IXL:  S1 - Read a thermometer

Social Studies:  We will focus on Christmas activities.

AR:  Please help your child write the title of each book and the testing number on the reading log in the back of their red folder.  The number can be found by going to AR Bookfinder.com and typing in the title.  Feel free to copy that number into any of my books that do not have a number already!

New Testament Book of the week:  II Thessalonians 

Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, I Corinthians, II Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians,  I Thessalonians and II Thessalonians  will be written on the back.

Reading: Our current unit is called Summarization.  Please help your child learn the Pattern Statement and three of the process questions for when they are tested. 

English:  We will begin Shurley English, chapter 8.  Please study the vocabulary, synonyms, and antonyms.  We are identifying parts of speech. 

Math:  The new facts of 13 and 14 were sent home in the folder Friday.  

Our four new facts are:  8 + 5 = 13, 5 + 8 = 13, 6 + 8 = 14, and 8 + 6 = 14
  Look at the daily math sheets to see the skills your child should know.  

IXL:  A 9, selecting even and odd numbers on a number line. 

Social Studies:  We will focus on Christmas activities.

AR:  Please help your child write the title of each book and the testing number on the reading log in the back of their red folder.  The number can be found by going to AR Bookfinder.com and typing in the title.  Feel free to copy that number into any of my books that do not have a number already!

Weekly Newsletter for November 24 – 28

Thanksgiving Lunch – Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 12:30 in our classroom.  Parents are invited to attend!  We will not be doing crafts,  just enjoying our meal together! We have made several items that will be on display for you to see. The class will play a game that they will make.

Weekly Newsletter for November 17 – 21

***Thanksgiving lunch – Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 12:30 in our classroom.  Leslie and Jahnae will send a note requesting items this upcoming week.  

***Please help your child complete the Thankful Hands project that was sent in Friday's folder.  Please have it completed and returned by next Friday, Nov. 21.

Math:  Continue practicing the math facts with sums of 12.  Look at the daily math sheets to see the skills your child should know.  

IXL:  G1  Add  multiples of 10

Science: We will learn about Native Americans and do Thanksgiving activities.

AR in computer lab on Thursday.  Have five or more books ready to be tested.
