Newsletter
for August 18-22
Each week I will post on
my blog what your child will learn for the week, along with other important
information. You need to check the blog
each Monday afternoon. If we are out on
a Monday it will be posted on a Tuesday.
Please follow the directions I sent home today so you can access my
blog. My blog address is different than
what I gave you on Parent Night. We had
to change it from “SBEC” to “NCS.” You
can sign up to follow by email so it will email you the information and you
won’t have to go to the blog address each week.
Homework is not included on the newsletter because your child writes it
in his/her assignment pad. The assignment pad must come to
school every day and you must initial it daily. If the assignment pad says to “Study”
anything, I do NOT need any written work sent back. I sent this home today to make you aware of
what’s going. Next week you’ll need to
check the blog.
Bible Verse: Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
And His greatness is unsearchable.
Psalm 145:3
NT Book: Matthew.
Your child will write the verse
and NT Book (only Matthew this
week) from memory on Friday. Please have your child look at the example
paper that shows
how to set up the Bible Verse
Homework. It is located at the back of
the Take Home Folder.
Students who repeatedly
fail to properly set up the homework will do it over.
Reading: Retelling.
We will be on this unit for 2 weeks, so the tests will be the week of
September 1st.
Math: Lessons 4-8: writing numbers to 100; addition
facts—doubles with sums to 18; identifying the attributes of pattern blocks;
identifying ordinal position to 6th; creating and reading a
repeating pattern; identifying and
acting out “some, some more” stories; comparing numbers to 50
IXL: Objective Q1 is due
Friday. See the separate note about IXL
in the Take Home Folder.
English: Chapter 2--antonyms/synonyms;
capitalization/punctuation rules. The
students are not required to memorize the capitalization and punctuation
rules. They will look at them on the
tests and daily work. These rules are
located on the tan and purple sheets in your child’s Take Home Folder. Begin studying the vocabulary and
synonym/antonym words for chapter 2
only, located on the orange sheet in the Take Home Folder—both sides. Also look at the papers that will be coming
home.
Spelling: Lesson 1—Be sure your child sets up
his/her homework paper tonight following the
example in the prong
part of the Take Home Folder. Students
who repeatedly fail to properly set up the homework will do it over. The tests
are on Thursdays.
School pictures are next
Tuesday, August 26th.
There is a clear page
protector in the front of the prong part of your child’s Take Home Folder
today. It contains extra tablet paper in
case you want to use it for practice or if your child messes up and needs to
start over. If you run out, just let me
know, and I’ll send more. If your
child doesn’t have tablet paper at home for some reason, please have him/her do
the written homework on whatever paper you have in the house so that the
homework is completed. If homework is
not returned, your child will be docked 5 points in his/her grade in that
subject. I will also put notes from
myself in that first clear pocket.
Please remember to initial the behavior calendar in the Take
Home folder and the assignment pad each night. Your child needs to bring his/her Take Home
Folder, Assignment Pad, a pop top water bottle, and a snack DAILY. I do not keep extra snacks, so your child
won’t eat snack if he/she doesn’t bring one.
You may send a gallon sized Ziploc bag full of them if that will help
you and your child. Please remember to
write your child’s name on his/her snack in case someone else brings the same
thing.
Remember to put your
carpool number in a visible place. If
someone else is picking up your child you may either give them your number or
another card with your child’s number can be made.
We had a great first
week! Thank you for a great start!
